Future of ShellEnhancer Poll

Postby Marc G » Sat Nov 27, 2004 11:12 am

I have come up with a new way to more safely implement the ShellEnhancer backend. This backend is responsible for all the low-level things that ShellEnhancer has to do to make everything work. This new method would probably prevent some crash-issues that happen with ShellEnhancer 2.0 Beta in combination with some other programs.
Unfortunately, this new method only works on Windows XP or later. So, before I switch over to this new method, I would like to know what versions of Windows users are using to run ShellEnhancer. Please vote at the top of this thread.

PS: You need to be registered to vote for this poll due to a forum bug, BUT you can add some comments to this thread WITHOUT being registered. So, if you don't want to register, please just reply to this thread and say which Windows you use.

As far as I can tell, you do need to make an account to vote; if you're not logged in, you see only the vote results.

Sorry, there appears to be a bug with this forum which prevents anonymous votes :(
Thank you for posting your version of Windows.

Yes, that's normaly. Everyone can reply to this thread without being registered, but non-registered guests can't vote due to that bug :(

Windows Server 2003 here.

To allow BC with older OS perhaps a good idea is to develop a middle layer between the *new* backend and the OS.

WinXP : SE -> NewBackend -> Compatibility Layer -> OS
Win2k/9x : SE -> NewBackend -> Compatibility Layer -> OldBackend -> OS

Of course it all depends on how modular is your software ;)

Yes, that might be a good idea. Thank you for the suggestion. :)

It will still be a while, can't put a date on it. The todo list is quite big and I'm afraid that some things won't even make it into the next release.
