Tags can be assigned to wallpapers, layouts, wallpaper categories and layout categories. The tags system in Wallpaper Cycler works with inheritance. This means that a wallpaper or layout will have all the tags directly assigned to it, but also all the tags assigned to its parent category, the parent of this parent category etc (recursively).
Assigning tags to layouts allows you to create a layout that will be used for wallpapers with certain tags. This works as follows. When Wallpaper Cycler wants to cycle to a wallpaper, it will first check if there are any layouts defined with tags that match tags on this wallpaper. If such a category or multiple layouts are found it will use one of these layouts for rendering this wallpaper. Learn more about how Wallpaper Cycler choses wallpapers and layouts when cycling.
A wallpaper object in a layout can also be linked to tags. To do this, select your wallpaper object in your layout and in the properties bar on the right of the layout editor select "Random with given tag..." for "Which Wallpaper". After this you can select the tag you want in the "With Tag" option. When you do this, this wallpaper object will only show wallpapers that contain the selected tag.
The following predefined tags exist: Landscape, Portrait and Square. Wallpaper Cycler will automatically assign one of these tags to imported wallpapers. You cannot delete, rename or combine these predefined tags. These predefined tags are especially useful in combination with the Smart Orientation feature.
A Tags Editor is available to quickly add, delete, edit and combine tags. The section below on assigning tags explains how to assign tags to wallpapers, layouts, wallpaper categories and layout categories. At all times you can get a detailed overview of all tags assigned to a wallpaper or layout. Tags can be very powerful when used together with Search Folders.
To add, delete, edit and/or combine tags you can use the Tags Editor which can be found in "Tools > Tags Editor...". The following is a screenshot of the Tags Editor.
The list shows all currently defined tags. The following operations are possible on tags:
Each tag can be enabled/disabled with the checkbox in front of the tag. This can be used to quickly disable all wallpapers matching a certain tag. Wallpapers with disabled tags will not be cycled. You can also assign hotkeys to quickly disable certain tags.
To assign tags to wallpapers or layouts you have to select the wallpapers or layout and then use the Info Panel. The tags section in the Info Panel looks as follows.
Click on the dropdown arrow to get a list of all available tags. In that list you can quickly assign or unassign tags to the selected wallpapers or layout. You can also type tags in the "<Type Tag>" textbox. If you type a tag that doesn't yet exist, it will be created. You can type as many tags as you want by separating them with a "," or ";".
There is also a link to quickly open the Tags Editor.
The link "Show tags details..." will show all tags details of the selected wallpapers or layout. This is explained in more details in the Show Tags Details section below.
You can assign tags to wallpaper categories by using the Tags page in the properties window of the wallpaper category. You can assign tags to layout categories by using the Tags page in the properties window of the layout category.
The main window of Wallpaper Cycler gives a quick overview of the tags assigned to a selected wallpaper. Tags linked directly to that wallpaper can be seen in the Info Panel (2 in the screenshot below). Tags assigned to the category of that wallpaper or any parent category can be found in the Caption Bar (1 in the screenshot below).
You can show all the tags details for selected wallpapers or layouts. The following is a screenshot of the Tags Details window for three selected wallpapers.
The look and feel of the Tags Details window for a selected layout is similar as the above one for wallpapers.
In the list on the left you will find all the wallpapers/layouts that are currently selected. This list is hidden when only 1 is selected. On the right you find all tags assigned to this object and inherited from parent categories. In the above example it means that the wallpaper called "Wallpaper 1" has the following tags: "Landscape", "tag 1", "Sub Tag" and "Main Tag".
